Immigrant family success story

Miguel’s story is similar to many first-generation Americans. His parents were forced to flee Cuba to the U.S., seeking exile, during the communist takeover of the island by Fidel Castor and his murderous communists, carrying only a suitcase. Both of Miguel Mirabal’s parents were political prisoners who were tortured in prison camps by the Cuban communist regime. They arrived in the U.S. in 1960 as political prisoners, exiled from their homeland. His parents found safety, democracy, and freedom in America, and like so many immigrants, with hard work and education, they persevered. Miguel’s father joined the U.S. military and was a decorated hero and veteran and went on to achieve professional success, with his father working hard to become an architect at the University of Miami School of Architecture and his mother Maggie, a former Cuban Beauty Pageant Beauty Queen “Ms. Cuba” who descended from Spanish aristocracy and nobility, went on to become as one of Miami’s first Hispanic female small business owners.

During his youth, Miguel Mirabal lived in a happy and safe home, but unfortunately, he did witness severe child abuse. Miguel Mirabal and his Mother, Maggie, helped raise his two nephews, one of whom was abused and neglected by their abusive father, while the mother failed to protect them. This was the start of Miguel’s commitment to community service and his belief that action must always be taken to protect women and children facing hardship.

Born, raised, and educated in Miami-Dade, Miguel Mirabal graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Westchester and went on to attend St. Thomas University, Barry University School of Law, UNED Law School, and ISDE Law Schools. Miguel Mirabal received a Master’s in International Business, two law degrees, and an L.L.M. in International Law and Diplomacy at one of Europe’s most prestigious universities. During his studies, Miguel worked full-time at a law firm in Madrid; he returned to law school for a second time to obtain dual degrees, an E.U. in Spanish Law and an L.L.M. in International Law, while being a full-time In-House Counsel at one of the largest vocational schools in the southeast United States.

After completing his education in Spain, Miguel “Mike” Mirabal returned to South Florida and opened InterJURIS’s Miami headquarters, followed by the launch of his own boutique international law firm. During this same time, Miguel served as in-house counsel for many local businesses for several years to give back to his community. Miguel acted as a court-appointed guardian ad litem attorney and a pro bono attorney in family law, immigration, international sex trafficking, custody, and domestic violence cases.
